Pontefract Cakes are a traditional sweet in a shade of black, shaped like circles and have the taste of aniseed and liquorice.
They have a gummy texture and are a medium soft sweet.
The original name for these small coined sized liquorice is a “Pomfret” cake, which is after the old Norman name for Pontefract.

Treacle, glucose syrup, maize starch, invert sugar syrup, wheat flour (wheat flour, calcium carbonate, iron, niacin, thiamin), liquorice extract, modified potato starch, vegetable oils (palm, sunflower, coconut), flavouring, glazing agent (carnauba wax).
May contain traces of milk, soya, cereals containing gluten, nuts and peanuts.
